The Brisbane Roar faithful have been spoiled over the years with moments of magic, but few quite capture the sheer tenacity and unwavering spirit of our club like the 2014 A-League Grand Final. While the 2011 'Miracle' often takes centre stage, the 2014 decider against Western Sydney Wanderers, played out under the Brisbane sun at our fortress, Suncorp Stadium, was a different beast altogether – a testament to endurance and nerves of steel.

After a dominant regular season where we clinched the Premiership, the Orange Army was buzzing, but we knew the Wanderers, under Tony Popovic, would be a formidable foe. Their rugged defence and tactical discipline meant goals would be hard to come by. And so it proved. The ninety minutes were a cagey, intense affair, a tactical battle where both sides cancelled each other out. Chances were scarce, the midfield a warzone, and the tension palpable, leaving the scores locked at 0-0.

Extra time brought a fresh wave of anxiety and excitement. The legs were tiring, but the desire burned brighter. It was our talisman, Besart Berisha, who finally broke the deadlock. A trademark poacher's finish, a clinical boot into the net, sent Suncorp into pandemonium. The roar was deafening, a collective release of pent-up emotion. Surely, that was it? The third championship was within grasp.

But the Wanderers, true to their battling nature, found an equaliser, just as the clock ticked down. Matthew Spiranovic's header, a cruel blow in the dying minutes of extra time, forced the ultimate decider: a penalty shootout. The air was thick with tension; hearts pounded in chests across the Stadium.

This wasn't just any shootout. It was a battle of wills, a test of character under immense pressure. Our boys stepped up, one by one. Thomas Broich, Liam Miller, Matt McKay – legends of the club – showed incredible composure, slotting their spot-kicks with precision. Each successful penalty was met with a roar of approval, each save by Michael Theo a surge of hope. When Jade North calmly dispatched his penalty, sealing the shootout victory, the euphoria was indescribable. Three championships in four years – an unprecedented 'three-peat' that cemented the Roar's legacy as one of the A-League's greatest dynasties.

That 2014 Grand Final wasn't just a win; it was a gritty, hard-fought triumph that showcased a different facet of the Roar's winning mentality. It was about enduring, grinding, and ultimately, prevailing when the stakes were highest. It’s a moment that deserves to be etched in the memory of every Roar fan, a reminder of the unyielding spirit that defines our club.
